Edmund
Battersby has made many appearances with Pro Musica Rara. As a performer
on both period and modern instruments, he has garnered an enviable
international reputation with new as well as old music. His recordings
for MSH, Koch International, and Naxos over the last two decades
have consistently been singled out for praise. His recording of
Granados' Goyescas was short-listed for a Grammy and his complete
recording of Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words was listed as "Sleeper
of the Year" when it was released. Mr. Battersby has just released
a recording of Beethoven's monumental Diabelli Variations in which
he plays the work twice, on a period and on a modern instrument.
The recording is available worldwide on Naxos. Recitals in major
cities and appearances with major orchestras and music festivals
have solidified his career since his debut at London's Wigmore Hall
and Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. Mr. Battersby, a graduate
of the Juilliard School, is Professor of Music at Indiana University
in Bloomington.
