PRESS RAVES for PRO MUSICA RARA and its GUESTS:

SuperBach Sunday- Jan. 2008

"The ensemble of period instruments, featuring mostly local musicians, shone in Telemann's wonderfully evocative depiction of incidents from Don Quixote.

The Overture was delivered in crisp, dynamic fashion. The chasing-windmills passage got a truly dashing workout, the finale an effective snap. Throughout, matters of intonation, articulation and balance were under admirable control.

Things proved equally rewarding in Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, delivered with considerable vitality and nuance. The excellent soloists were Cynthia Roberts (violin), Gwyn Roberts and Jacob Lodico (recorders)."

Other Perfomances:

"The elegant, mellifluous playing of violist David Miller was especially pleasing."
--The Indianapolis Star

"The musicians turned in a virtuosic effort that caught the Trio's remarkably vibrant character."
--Baltimore Sun

"World-class virtuosity. With fleet fingers and sweet tone, Gwyn Roberts tears into these demanding works with nothing less than breathtaking results."
-- American Record Guide

"The solo instrument played the role of romantic hero, full of passion, then simplicity, then whispered soulfulness, but always with flashes of brilliance. (Allen) Whear dashed through all these aspects, packaging his fiery performance with a nicely inflected sound and sense of dramatic gesture."
--The Philadelphia Inquirer

"Cynthia Roberts’ expressive interpretation brought out the work’s inner beauty and outer brilliance."
--Cleveland Plain Dealer

"Edmund Battersby [showed] a mastery of his instrument and repertoire that any pianist in the world might envy."
--Washington Post

SuperBach Sunday 2006

"Soprano Ann Monoyios sang affectingly, especially in the gorgeous, rising melody of Monarque redoute, Orphee's plea for Euridice. A small group of period instruments played admirably, with particular charm and finesse from violinist Madeline Adkins."
--Baltimore Sun
